Case 1: Hiccup
A middle aged patient telephoned me in the evening, for a complaint of continuous hiccough since afternoon. He was treated with Neooctinum without much relief.

The hiccoughs had started while he was joking and laughing with his friends. There was no history of any digestive disturbance or other physical ailments.

Boerickes Therapeutic Index gives Ginseng, Ratanhia, Nux-v and Sulph-ac under Hiccough. The patient was an executive with the attendant lifestyle. He was given Nux-vom 200 every 15 minutes. In two doses the hiccough vanished.
Later, all investigations were done in detail which turned out normal.

Case 2: Acute Rigors
Few months back, my father had sudden rigors at night and it involved only the left half of the body. There was a history of minor dental drilling in the evening. the rigors were very violent. A physician was summoned, who advised anti-malarial drug. The pulse was normal and so was the blood pressure. I noted that this was a case of chill requiring only one cover and not associated with any fever. It was some kind of infection, probably malaria.

The medicines that came to my mind were Belladonna for the suddenness and severity, the others being China-Ars and Nux-v (for rigors).

Nux-v in Boerickes Materia Medica it is stated that it has excessive rigor with blueness of fingernails, perspiration sour, only one side of the body affected. In rigors it has not been mentioned on one side of the body. However now after this experience I have included Nux-v for half sided rigors in my repertory.

Nux-vom 200 was given. 15 minutes alter the rigors were of lesser intensity and mildly shifting to the right side. Another dose of Nux-v was repeated after which there was no more rigor. He slept the whole night very comfortably. The next day there was a high fever which immediately responded to a dose of Nux-v
