Cases.
` Mur-ac / Lact-ac.

In November 95, a lady aged 32 years came to me with the complaints of chronic piles and depression. She had bleeding and soreness in the piles. Sometimes she got severe burning especially after stool; better by warm application. She had swings of mood. She also had gabhrahat on slightest misfortune; along with fear that something will happen to her, especially when she was alone. She wanted someone with her all the time.

During gabhrahat her whole body became cold and sweating especially the palms and soles. Normally she wants perspire at night. She was hurried, impatient very restless. Could not sit still constantly kept moving both the legs throughout the consultation.

She was very industrious; all the time she kept herself busy; needed to be occupied. Can never sit quietly and rest during daytime. Very active. But in the evening she got exhausted and wanted to lie down. She always finished her work very fast and she still felt that she was not able to finish work in time.

She was a mother of three children. Sometimes when tired she became aggressive and beat them. Her children irritated her too much. She constantly worried about her health and was afraid that something will go wrong with her.

She also had weak memory and difficulty in concentration and was absentminded; would lose the thread of conversation. At times she felt that someone noticed that she was finding difficulty in choosing proper words to speak. During the consultation, she was finding difficulty in expressing herself. She changed topics frequently and her speech was very hasty.

She was very sensitive, could not tolerate even a small argument or slightest disappointment. She felt pity on herself, felt dissatisfied with self; felt she was stupid.

She was from a very rich family; was the only daughter of her parents, hence was pampered a lot. She was a very happy go lucky person. She was married to a very rich person who was a businessman. Her in-laws were very nice, took care of her very well. Her husband was busy all the time with his business. He hardly spared time for his family. She felt that she was not being looked after carefully by her husband. So constantly, she tried to seek care, love and attention from others. She was very affectionate too.

She craves - cheese, meat and salt.
She had frightful dreams. Frequently she dreamt, that her younger child was killed and she saw blood coming out of his body.

CASE ANALYSIS: This lady was very anxious, apprehensive, very sensitive to slightest misfortune. Very industrious, hurried, active, caring and sometimes aggressive too. She constantly seeks attention, love and care and is very affectionate.

On one side we find - apathy, exhaustion, hurry, active and aggressiveness which is the main theme of Acids while on the other side we find - care, love, attention, self pity which is the main theme of Muriaticum.

Considering this I selected and prescribed a dose of Muriatic-acid 1M. After few days she had an aggravation in piles. There was burning and difficulty in sitting. She had to keep a hot water bag to get relief. After a few days, all her complaints improved. There were no frightful dreams and she felt relaxed. She is currently under observation, and doing well on SL.

CASE 2: THE CLINGING CHILD.

In June 94, a child aged 3 years, was brought to me by her parents with chief complaints of -

  1. Recurrent cough and cold
  2. Recurrent loose, watery, sour smelling stools.

She was given allopathy without much improvement.

She was a sweet, happy and active baby, very fair, slightly obese with blue sclera. She was impatient - could not sit still, could not play with one thing for long time. She wanted change, could not sit at one place, always changing places, very demanding but when offered rejected; very obstinate; sometimes became aggressive, used to pull her hair, strikes herself or throw the things. She was very attached to her mother; never allowed her to go anywhere, all the time her mother has to remain with her.

She was seen by few child specialists and was diagnosed as having Lactose intolerance and was advised not to be given milk. She had sour smelling perspiration over forehead and even body smell was sour. She had sour smelling perspiration over forehead and even body smell was sour. She slept on left side with salivation from mouth and occasional grinding of teeth. Sometimes she woke up from sleep in fright, wept and clung to her mother. She craves sweets, milk, cheese and pickles.

On above symptomatology, she was given Calc-carb, Rheum, Stramonium and Tuberculinum in period of 4 months with very little improvement.

One day she was called for re-consideration of the case. On complete re-case-taking the following history was obtained.

She was a premature baby by about 1 month. She was very weak and was kept in an incubator for 5-6 days. She was breast fed, but mother had poor lactation and she would not suck properly. So bottled milk was started which resulted in the diarrhoea. Gradually she became weak and would not gain weight. She used to cry constantly and would be quiet only when her mother fed her which was very frequent. She was given many vitamins and iron for gaining weight without result.

H/O mother during pregnancy:.

Diabetes was detected during routine investigation in the first 3 months of pregnancy. She had excessive thirst and her appetite was also increased; her blood sugar (PPBS) was 204 mg. She was given injection insulin daily throughout the pregnancy. She also had nausea and vomiting persistently throughout the pregnancy. She also had nausea and vomiting persistently throughout the 9 months; especially in the morning. It was better after eating. She constantly felt tired. She also had vertigo and weakness along with hypotension; with sensation of falling down. She had aversion to milk, had sour taste in the mouth after taking milk. She craved sweets and pickles and was averse to milk and sour foods.

In analyzing childs state/ symptomatology I considered following to be important -

  1. Premature/ Weak child with excessive hunger and thirst, mother feeds frequently.
  2. Excoriating, acidic stool with soreness of anus and nates.
  3. Sourness of discharge ie stool and sweats.
  4. Cravings: Sweets; milk; cheese.

Considering mothers H/O during pregnancy and childs important symptoms, I thought about Lactic-acid. In this case, I gave more importance to the mothers history during pregnancy.

For Lactic-acid in mother the following symptoms were considered

  1. Persistent nausea and vomiting during pregnancy, which was better after eating.
  2. Sour taste in the mouth after taking milk.
  3. Poor lactation.
  4. Vertigo, weakness along with hypotension - It could be because of hypoglycemia.
  5. Craving for sweets, pickles and aversion to milk and sour foods.

Lactic-acid in child -

  1. Premature birth with weak child, along with excessive hunger.

Immediately I had a thought in my mind that it could be due to diabetes which mother had during pregnancy. So many times we came to know that a diabetic mother delivered a premature - and a weak child. Child was crying and she was quiet only when mother fed her, here I thought that it could be due to hypoglycemia.
  2. Other symptoms of Lactic acid - sourness of discharges; soreness of anus and nates craving for sweets, milk.

So, on the above considerations, I prescribed Lactic-acid 200 one dose with SL for 15 days. After 15 days the diarrhoea had reduced in frequency. There was no redness or soreness at the nates. The cold and cough were also better.

When I saw her in December 95, I asked about her diarrhoea to which her parents said that the child was absolutely fine.
