Case 21: Lack of confidence helped by Podophyllum

'Podophyllum

A patient consulted Dr Muthukumar for lack of confidence, depression, shyness, timidity especially with strangers, feeling of worthlessness, irritability for the past 6-7 years. He had two attacks of jaundice during that period. Also complained of alternating constipation and diarrhoea. He always had an urge to defecate before going out. He felt that his digestion has not improved after the last attack of jaundice.

Dr Muthukumar did not see the patient but relied on the letter from the patient.

He consulted Dr Knerr's repertory and selected the following rubrics:
(P480) Liver affection with mental symptoms: irritability- Bry, Cham, Nux-vom, Pod; Disgust for life: Pod
Nervous, in consequence of excessive hepatic action: Pod
Podophyllum 200 was prescribed with wonderful results. This remedy also covers the symptom of alternate constipation and diarrhoea.
