The Irritable Child

A boy of 12 years came to me in the month of June with jaundice since 15 days. He was on Liv-52 with a partial improvement.

Symptoms :

1. The patient had yellow discolouration of conjunctiva, nails and skin.
2. Loss of appetite, thirst normal, no fever.
3. Liver slightly enlarged.
4. Patient was otherwise quite calm but ever since he fell sick he had become very irritable.

Treatment :
On this basis Lycopodium 200 three doses 2 hourly was prescribed followed by placebo.

Follow-up :
Day 4-appetite improved. Prescribed SL.
Day 8-Yellowish discolouration decreasing. Prescribed SL.
Day 15-90 percent drop in yellow discolouration. Liver size back to normal.
Day 19- Irritability decreased. Prescribed Lyco 200 3 doses.
Day 28 - The patients father called to say that the child was completely alright.

Basis of Prescription :

1. Eyes discolouration yellow K 237
2. Enlarged liver K 546
3. Appetite wanting K 479
4. Irritability in children when sick SRI 661

This irritability is also a feature of Psorinum (SR 651). However it is worse at night and is a differentiating factor.
