Menopause, a period of change in the anatomy, physiology and biochemistry in the life cycle of a female, constitutes an important feature in case taking and prescription. In our Materia Medica we have drugs suitable for complaints occurring at menopause and this constitutes an important keynote for the drug.

CASE: A 46 year old lady with amenorrhea since a year came with complaints of loss of vision of left eye since last two months. She complained of pain, circum-corneal redness and photophobia of the left eye. Her condition was diagnosed as Irido-cyclitis of left eye. She had taken all treatment including AKT without relief.

When she came to me for the first time, it was almost closing time of the OPD and as I had to attend some important meeting in the office I wanted to tell her to come the next day. But before I could do this, she came inside, introduced herself and started narrating her complaints in detail and spoke continuously for ten minutes allowing no interruption from my side.

Nothing else was enquired into as three features were prominent

  1. Menopausal period
  2. Loquacious
  3. Left eye involvement.

Lachesis 1M single dose was given with sac. lac.

On her next visit she reported 25 percent improvement in her vision. The redness, photophobia and pain were less.

SL was given for a month and on her next visit she reported 40 percent relief.

Few more doses of Lachesis 1M were given at an interval of 1-2 months and with that she made a complete recovery in six months time with full restoration of her vision.
