Magic of Merc-sol :A Capsule Case

Mr J C, aged 40 yrs, lean and thin, short built, consulted me on 08-01-1994 evening. He stood dumb before me as he could not speak a word, but pointed to the right side of his throat with his finger. This area was enormously swollen and was very tender. The information elicited by sign and questions revealed that he had a swelling around his premolar tooth on the right lower jaw. It soon affected his entire jaw and later it traveled down his throat. He could neither eat nor drink. I gave him Bell 30 a few doses for immediate relief. But it had no effect. Slowly I could now elicit that he had developed all these symptoms after taking a bath at night after a cremation. I then prescribed Bell 1M, which also failed.

09-01-1994: his daughter who came to inform me of his bad condition, told me that he was drooling and the saliva was running down the corner of his mouth. Based on this developing symptom of increasing salivation I sent him three doses of Merc-sol 30 to be taken half hourly. This was followed by a positive onset of relief. No further medicine.

11-01-1994: no further relief. Merc-sol 1M-1 dose cleared both the swelling of the throat and the gum.

Observation
It became clear that, when the first acute remedy and the second aetiology based remedy failed to touch the case, the patient required a deeper acting remedy. The salivation that developed indicated that a suppressed miasmatic condition existed and had surfaced after the bath. When the swelling of the gum and salivation pointed to such a remedy Merc-sol. He started getting relief at once. In some of these acute cases, the use of deeper acting anti-miasmatic remedies may be required to cure them.

In this context, Dr D Laxminarayan, the editor of Medicina Future Homoeopathy, Hyderabad, stated, "I recall a 35 year old experience where an young girl had chewed the leaf of an ornamental potted plant at a party and returned home unable to utter the slightest sound, her entire mouth a mass of red inflamed tissue. Neither Caladium nor Arum-t given in frequent doses had the slightest effect in 2 hours. Then based on the same symptom of drooling saliva, Merc-sol 200 repeatedly relieved her by next morning. This case treated in the presence of an allopathic doctor, so impressed him that he presented me a copy of Bell’s Diarrhoea."

Another interesting case of a Hindu woman who approached me with a complaint of a white pale spot on her mid forehead, where she use to put vermilion daily. Her spot was eradicated after a few doses of Mer-sol.
