Anxiety, excitability, indisposition to talk and weepiness are prominent symptoms of Magnesium-mur but other leading symptoms may help clinch the choice of this remedy.

Case 1
A very fat lady nervous, excitable, emotional and extremely peevish at times, was earlier responding to Nat-mur, then she developed severe and bursting headaches in her forehead associated with morning nausea. Pressing her head with her hands gave her some relief. There are three remedies listed under headache better by pressing with her hands, viz Carbo-an, Glon, and Mag-mur is present against the rubric morning nausea [KR p 505]. The patient was prescribed Mag-mur 6 thrice daily and when seen after ten days was completely relieved of both the complaints.

Case 2
A girl, aged 19 yrs, had a feverish cold followed by Rt frontal sinusitis with severe tenderness. There was yellow nasal discharge, loss of taste and smell, feeling of raw throat in the evening, marked thirst and poor appetite with extreme weakness. All these symptoms are found in Mag-mur and she was prescribed that remedy in 30th potency - 6 doses and 18 days last she reported that her nose had cleared but still had the yellow nasal discharge, worse in a stuffy atmosphere but better in fresh air. She was then given Mag-mur 6 twice a day for few days and the yellow discharge ceased.

Case 3
Mag-mur is also efficacious for women who have pimples before menses. Kent has indicated only one remedy for pimples on face before menses and that is Mag-murA married woman, 26 yr old, complained of pimples on her face. Worse in a warm room and worse before her menses. The Kent's repertory gives the following rubrics: Eruptions - pimples, menses before agg - Dulc, Mag-mur. Pimples, warm room agg - only Mag-mur The patient was given Mag-mur 6 thrice daily which cured her complaints in a short time.

Case 4
Mrs S, aged 47, a very excitable - almost hysterical - woman suffered violent occipital headaches for many yrs, which occurred every few days and lasted for 3 days; never passed a week without one. Heat and pressure gave her some relief. Bowels were constipated with no desire for a week and had to take enema. The stools were hard and small resembling sheep-dung. Craves open air and cool air. Heat flushes. Menses absent lately. Oversensitive: extremely sensitive to touch over the entire body. Dr Kent who treated the patient uses this case to illustrate the method of using his Repertory taking the strange, rare and peculiar symptoms. The remedies in which stool is round, hard balls resembling sheep-dung and also strong craving for open air are:- Alum, Bar-carb, Carb-an, Carb-sul, Caust, Graph, Kali-s, Mag-mur, Nat-m, Nat-s, Op, Sulph.
No desire for stool for many days:- Alum, Carb-an, Carb-s, Caust, Graph, Kali-s, Mag-m, Nat-m, Nat-s, Op, Sulph and many others not related to the case.

Case 5
One tends to think of Mag-mur for liver pain relieved by lying on the back like Nat-sulph but worse lying on either side with soreness if lying on the Rt and a dragging sensation if lying on the Lt side. The pain is aggravated by walking and extends to the back.
Dr Stewart

A 52 yrs old person who had a 37 pound spleen removed five years earlier suffered from enlarged liver. He was a weepy old man and felt stuffy in the x-ray if she was late in returning home. These are all mental symptoms of Mag-mur but the same remedy was selected on the symptoms of severe liver pain aggravated by lying on his Lt side and by walking and ameliorated by lying on the back or Rt side. On the day after he took 6 powders of Mag-mur 30 he had a severe nose bleeding which lasted all day and aggravation of his liver pain but after that he was well for 2 months. On the New Year eve he has a glass of sherry and wine which resulted in diarrhoea for five days, vertigo on rising in the night and poor appetite with nasty taste in his mouth and piles. He benefited from Mag-mur in low potency and occasional doses of Phos and Lyco. During treatment he exhibited further indications of Mag-mur such as pulsation in his ear, hard crumbly stools and palpitations when seated, which disappeared on motion.

Case 6
A woman, 20 yr old, consulted Dr Scholten for her depression. She could not bring herself to do anything and she felt tired very easily. Her parents were divorced when she was 5 yrs old because her mother became schizophrenic and he Lt without notice. She felt that her father did not really care for her as an individual. Her mother spent some time in a hospital, regularly, because of her mental problems. She is easily irritated and more so with her mother who always talked about her own world and her own problems. For one and half yrs she has been feeling that life is pointless and she broke off her relationship with her boyfriend. She felt suffocated in the relationship and felt that he demanded too much of her. She also felt that she would also become schizophrenic. She cannot tolerate heat which makes her tired. Headache is agg by sun but amel during rain and amel at sea side. In the morning she is always bad tempered. During menses she gets stomach cramps and pain in her calves desire for spicy and salty foods and chocolate. Nausea after coffee and aversion to fish. Her sleep is unrefreshing. Dreams about dying corpses and water.

Analysis
As she is a child of divorced parents the first choice was Mag-mur. The basic theme of Mag-mur as in group analysis is present; ie there is strong irritation towards her mother who being mentally sick could not give her love and affection that one expects from a mother. Her problems with her father and boyfriend were of secondary importance and more related to her problem with her mother. The other Mag-mur symptoms were agg in the morning and amel at sea, desire for salt and aversion to fish and she often dreamt about water.
The patient was prescribed Mag-mur 1M and her depression gradually disappeared. A year later she started studying again and a new subject with great enjoyment. The other remedies which helped her later on were Nat-flouratum and Graphites.

The medical community has gone from one extreme-saying that cholesterol has little to do with heart disease - to the other, portraying cholesterol as the primary cause of heart problems.
