While considering Homoeopathic treatment for Psoriasis, Miasmatic background has to be considered as the disease is caused by all three miasms. Unless the miasmatic block is cleared with proper anti-miasmatic drugs, relapses are bound to occur.

Case 1:

A 28 year old male returned to India after resigning from his post in Dubai and developed Psoriasis all over the body from head (entire scalp affected - too much scaling - desquamation) to foot with circular thick round, raw patches all over and severe itching - scratching and scaling. During this period both Allopathic and Ayurvedic treatment were tried with no success whatsoever. No history of skin trouble in family and no history of any earlier illness as well.

Came in for Homoeopathic treatment during August 89. Probing for the mentals is a herculean task. It was decided to go behind the Personality and give a dose of Lueticum 1M to clear off the miasmatic-block if any before starting the treatment.

Treatment and Follow-Up:

23-8-89 - Lueticum 1M 1 Dose
31-8-89 - Not any improvement observed
Lyco 10M - 2 doses (12 hours apart)
Kali-sulf 6x tablets 5 TDS regularly
Oleander 30 once daily at bedtime for 2 weeks.
20-9-89 - The eruptions at the scalp cleared off.
The thickness and rawness of the patches all over
the body almost cleared.
Almost relieved of the itching.
Lyco 10M - 2 Doses (12 hours apart)
12-10-89 - The patches are all cleared off, leaving a dull white discoloration at certain cleared patches.
Ars 30 - 3 Doses, 1 dose every morning.
This has cleared up most of the discoloration.
By the end of December 1989, there was a relapse of Psoriasis.
Lyco 10M, 2 doses were repeated which ameliorated the problem within 10 days time, with was no subsequent relapse.

Case 2:

A 58 year old widow had Psoriasis affecting scalp, face, chest and both the hands coupled with Rheumatism of the joints especially the wrists (both) and ankles (both) with rigidity and swelling, since 1984.

Life Style and Mentals:

It was 4 years since she lost her husband. She has two sons, one of whom an earning member, lived separately without caring for his mother and family. The other boy was still studying and the family was having financial difficulties. She confessed she used to weep a lot, brooding over the unpleasant situation.

She came in for Homoeopathic treatment during January 1988 :-

12-1-88 - Medor 1000 - 2 Doses (12 hours apart)
Initial aggravation of the joint pains for few days.
4-2-88 - Sep 200 - 3 Doses
One dose daily at bedtime for 3 days.
14-2-88 - Some improvement in stiffness at the joints noticed and the skin lesions healed up
Kali-sulf 6X, 5 tablets thrice a day.
25-2-88 - Sep 10M 2 Doses (12 Hours apart)
Skin and Rheumatic complaints improved within a month.

The rheumatic complaints viz - the stiffness at joints and swelling used to aggravate every rainy season and the Psoriasis used to aggravate every winter. As such the patient was given 1 Dose of Sep 10 M at the onset of Monsoon and Winter for 2 consecutive years. The patient has had no relapse of both the complaints till date.

Case 3:

A 36 years old Bank Officer, a native of Jammu, was transferred to Bombay since a year. He was married and had a eight year old son.

He could not tolerate the hot and humid climate of Bombay, and longed for the cold climate of Jammu and Kashmir.

He liked spicy food, warm drinks and had strong aversion for sweets and milk. Though a senior bank executive he was quite indifferent to his personal appearance.

Mentals:- After marriage he had to settle many family problems and finally severed his relations with other family members, including his parents and also decided to live separately with his wife and son. This mental trauma affected his health and he suffered much. The skin eruptions started at this time, first on the scalp during summer; subsequently the eruptions spread over body (hands, chest and back). He suffered from psoriasis for about 11 years since 1977. Though the Skin Specialists whom he had consulted had confirmed the disease as "Psoriasis" and not "Contact-Dermatitis", even his near relations and friends deserted him. He was regularly using an ointment which contained steroids and other drugs all over the affected sites for relief of itching - burning and oozing; almost 1-2 kg of ointment being used up in 2-3 days.

He would go into mental depression too often, worried about the incurable (?) disease he was having. He came in for Homoeopathic treatment during December 1988.

Nature of the eruption:

Most of the patches desquamating; the lesions on the chest and upper arms were humid, discharging highly offensive slimy liquid. The eruptions on the scalp which were discharging humid, offensive pus had dried up, with scabs forming. Some of the eruptions on the abdomen were dried up. Wherever the scales had fallen off the colour of the patches was brown.

Treatment and follow-up:

12-12-88 - Sul 200-3 Doses 1 Dose daily Morning for 3 days. Kali-sulf 6X, 4 tablets TDS.
26-12-88 - Good improvement in the skin Lesions Sul 200-1 Dose.
Kali-sulf 6x Tablets 4 x TDS continued.
10-1-89 - The oozing from the patches stopped, the scabs fallen off leaving brown, smooth shiny lesions all over.
Sul 1000 2 doses within a gap of 3 hours in the morning.

By end February 89, the brown coloured glossy lesions almost faded and in most of the places blended with skin colour; and no itching whatsoever, resulting in complete cure.

Case 4:

A 50 years old senior Executive in a commercial concern suffered from Psoriasis which affected the entire scalp, forehead and ears since 3 years.

Family History: Two of his sisters had eczema for quite sometime, treated and cured.

He recalled that his complaint started after he used hair-dye at one time, which practice he stopped there-after.

He had a dark complexion and hence the skin lesions on the forehead and ears showed prominently but the major lesions were on the scalp with too much itching - scratching; and just formation. Due to severe chronic constipation he was in the habit of taking enema daily to have his bowels cleared. He liked more of salty - spicy and sour items of food; likes cool climate; could not stand heat.

The other major complaint was sleeplessness, almost throughout night. He was always brooding about his ill-health. Because of despair of recovery from illness he would go into mental depression often. He preferred to avoid company.

Because of obstinate constipation and sleeplessness he was initially given -

3-8-90 - Lueticum 10 M 1 Dose and Berb acq Q liquid.
20 gtt. in water twice daily.
10-8-90 - Reported some improvement except for skin eruptions continued Berb acq Q.
25-8-90 - Nat-mur 10 M - 2 Doses (12 hours apart)

By this time, he could do away with enema-habit, as the constipation problem was removed. Continued Berb-acq Q.
30-9-90 - The Skin lesions on the face cleared up, few patches on the scalp only remained. Nat mur 10 M 2 Doses (12 hours apart)
31-10-90 - All the skin lesions healed up, also relieved of constipation and sleeplessness. There had been no relapse of skin eruptions thereafter.
