Miss. H.S., 13 years old, came with multiple warts on the left side of the body since one year. They were mainly on the elbow while the rest were scattered around head, forearm, wrist, index finger and thigh. They were of various sizes and shapes; some of them were painful to touch with history of bleeding, (only once) from the warts.

O.D.P: Initially 2 warts appeared on the left knee and gradually spread to upper extremity and thigh in one year.
Appetite: Normal and no particular craving was mentioned. Aversion to vegetables and dal.
P-H-O: She suffered from repeated boils, which were treated with allopathic medicines. Sleep was normal with no dreams.
Thermal: Hot patient. Menarche-late - 1 to 11-2 months, scanty flow.
F-H-O: Uncle had Kochs. GF, GM, suffered from Heart problems.
Maternal Aunt had epilepsy.
Mind: She is stubborn. Her hobbies were watching TV. good in her studies.

Treatment:

In the above case it wasnt easy to select the similimum - as the patient appeared very quiet. Most of the history was given by her mother who jabbered non-stop. Nothing peculiar was emerging in the mental sphere; when the mother was asked why the daughter was so quiet while she was so talkative, she replied, "No Doctor, you should see her with her friends. She never stops!" This helped me to decide on the prescription of Lachesis on the basis of following rubrics :-

  1. Loquacity
  2. Left sided affection
  3. Typical lachesis mother
  4. Late periods (Discharge suppressed).

Comments: A few more doses of Lachesis should make her menses also normal. The readers of NJH must be familiar with Dr. Parinaz Humranwalas case - A bottle of warts in the Warts issue of NJH. April 94 where the warts were on the right side. Both these cases reconfirm the well established facts - right sided affections of Lycopodium and left sided of Lachesis. These cases also teach us to look into generalities and the central disturbance rather than considering the chief complaint for prescription.
