Dr Sameer Upadhya.
` Verat

Mr. A, a 21 year old unmarried Muslim, came on 23rd Sept. 92 for behavioural problems. He had depression of 2 years and was treated with antidepressant drugs.

He came from a very rich family. His father was a farmer and had a business too. He was the only son of his parents and therefore pampered. Since childhood all his demands were fulfilled immediately. He had no inclination to work and was always spending money. He would just take of Rs.10,000 and spend all of it in gambling with his friends.

He became very irritable especially when his desires were not fulfilled. When angered he became violent, beat the family members, broke things and tore clothes. He was very obstinate. He lied when asked how he spent the money. He had a lot of fixed ideas. His ambition was to stay in a house and totally made of glass with central air-conditioning. He wanted modern art over the glass walls. The beds should be of wood plated with gold. He wanted a great car. He likes loud music and dark clothes.

He behaved as though he was the king and every one should obey him. A peculiar thing was that whenever relatives or friends visited his house, his behaviour changed immediately. He behaved as though nothing had happened. He would talk nicely, like a mature person.

He was on antidepressants and as long as he took them, he remained alright. Whenever the medicine was stopped or withdrawn he would start behaving rudely and become violent.
