Its owner called in distress, saying how the bird had been so happy and excited the last few days as the weather had turned warmer and had been singing for longer than the usual durations. One solution that came to mind was to put a few pills of the remedy in water, in a spray bottle and spray in the area of the cage. The owner rang off saying she would try this. I had no high hopes as at that time I didnt even know what a canary looked like, leave alone its physiology or pathology. Imagine my surprise when the lady called back 2 days later very happy that the bird was now back to its usual melodic state. She had sprayed the cage diligently every 2-3 hrs. for the last day and it seemed to have worked like magic! I would like to extend this learning to ICU patients to consider spraying /application of remedy on skin if oral route unavailable.
